Prof. Dr. Torleif Ruud is head of the R&D department for mental health services at Akershus University Hospital and professor of psychiatry at the University of Oslo. He has earlier been medical director of a community mental health centre and Research Director for Mental Health Services Research in SINTEF, Norway.
He has done mental health services research, epidemiological studies, follow-up studies, studies on professional training, and development of instruments. He is presently in charge of a national research based evaluation of ACT teams in Norway, a national network for quality improvement and research in acute mental health services, and a study on committed collaboration between health and mental health services for persons with severe mental illness. He is also involved in several other projects and studies, including a randomised controlled trial of short and long term group psychotherapy.
